Is an ATM right for you?

Is an ATM right for your business?

An ATM can help customers stay, spend and come back — at some locations more than others. Here’s how it helps, what it takes and where it tends to work best.

How it can help

Four ways cash on site can help.

    A reason to walk in

People who need cash look for a nearby ATM. A visible machine and an “ATM inside” sign can bring some of them into your business instead of somewhere else.

  2. 02

    Customers stay put

Customers who can get cash inside don’t have to leave to find it — and some of what they withdraw is likely to be spent with you. Send them down the street and some won’t come back.

  3. 03

    Another way to pay

A cash-only vendor, a cover charge at the door, a customer who simply prefers cash: an ATM gives them an option on site, as long as their bank approves the withdrawal.

  4. 04

Fewer card fees on cash sales

Purchases customers choose to make in cash carry no card processing fee. How much that matters depends on your mix of sales.

What to weigh

No purchase, no monthly fee — and a few things to consider.

Under our placement program there’s no equipment to buy, no monthly service fee and no minimum volume. That keeps the risk low — but it isn’t zero-effort, and it isn’t right for every location.

What you provide: a few square feet of floor space, a standard outlet and the small amount of electricity the machine uses. What your customers see: a convenience fee on screen before they withdraw. What you agree to: a placement agreement with a term, renewal and removal terms we walk you through before you sign.

Where it works best

Businesses where cash still does the talking.

Walk-in businesses with customers who sometimes prefer cash are the best fit. These are common examples.

  • Bars, clubs and live venues

Cover charges, tabs and tips run on cash. An ATM by the door keeps lines moving and tabs open.

  • Markets, fairs and events

Cash-only vendors depend on nearby cash. A serviced ATM keeps every stall selling all day.

  • Restaurants and cafés

Tips, split checks and quick counter orders are faster in cash — and cash tips go straight to staff.

  • Grocery, liquor and convenience

Frequent, small purchases and a customer base that often prefers cash. Weekly ATM habits become weekly visits.

  • Hotels and hospitality

Guests need cash for valet, housekeeping, taxis and local vendors. An in-lobby ATM is an expected amenity.

  • Laundromats and barber shops

Customers with time on their hands and staff who are tipped in cash — small footprints where a compact ATM earns its keep.

What matters most

An ATM only helps if it works.

An empty or out-of-order machine does the opposite of everything above. It sends customers away frustrated — from your business, not the ATM company’s.

That’s why the service behind the machine matters more than the machine itself. BayTM ATMs are monitored around the clock, loaded on a schedule by trained professionals and repaired by technicians who are on call 24/7. Machines report problems remotely, so we can often act before your staff notice.

Questions

Before you decide.

How does an ATM help my business?

It gives customers who prefer cash — or need it for tips, cover charges or cash-only vendors — a way to get it without leaving. Some of that cash is likely to be spent with you, and people looking for a nearby ATM may find your business. Results vary by location; we’ll be honest about whether yours is a good fit. Does BayTM charge my business anything for a placed ATM?

No. Under our free placement program there is no charge to your business for the machine, installation, cash loading, connectivity, maintenance or repairs, and no monthly fee. Your placement agreement spells this out in writing. For a buy-vs-free breakdown, see how much an ATM costs.

Do my customers pay a fee to withdraw cash?

Yes. Like most retail ATMs, the machine shows a convenience fee on screen before the customer confirms, and they can cancel at no charge. Their own bank may add a separate fee. That surcharge is what funds the machine, the cash and the service, so your business doesn’t pay for them.

Is there a minimum transaction volume?

No. We don’t require a minimum number of transactions to place or keep an ATM at your business, which makes BayTM a fit for seasonal and lower-traffic locations too.
